  Lavender oil; optional

They're crisp and refreshing as only nature can be. Mix up a batch of after-shaves to pamper that special man on your list and an array of body rubs for your active friends; then present your tinctures in clearly beautiful bottles. Witch hazel, itself derived from the leaves and bark of the witch hazel shrub, becomes the soothing base for these lotions.

Bruise herbs and loosely fill wide-mouthed jar. Cover with witch hazel, seal, and steep 2 weeks, until scented. For more fragrance, use strained infusion to cover another batch of herbs, or add 6 drops of essential oil to each 2 cups of mixture. Strain, bottle, and label "For External Use Only." A fresh sprig adds a decorative look to the final concoction.
